Mentally Preparing for the Summer Away
This is for the campers! Whether it's your first, second, or fifth camp summer, you are expected to be nervous. Now that we are near the start of camp, it's time to think about how to make camp the best it can be. Though there are many types of summer camps, the similarities are among them all. Now that it's just the campers, let's get started.
What to Expect
Here are a few things to expect when arriving at camp:
A tour of the camp and your cabin.
Unpacking and claiming beds.
Snacks, drinks, and relaxing.
Lots of talking.
These things ensure everyone has a good welcome.
The last point, talking, is so important. Though you are nervous, talking to people on the first day or even before camp can be helpful and can help start the summer.
Also, these things can get chaotic. When in a group of 8-12 people and counselors, unpacking and touring can be messy. When packing be organized so you have a smooth unpacking experience. For packing, check out this post for more help.
At camp, it is important to come in with a positive, and open mindset. The second you hop on the camp bus with people, find someone to talk to and be smiley, kind, and open because there is a chance that they will be in your cabin.
Let's pretend it's time for activities, here's what you do:
Have someone in your cabin or age group go with you.
Where proper attire for each activity.
PUT ON SUNSCREEN BEFORE LEAVING!
Go to the activity YOU want to go to.
Throughout your time at camp, go to different activities.
Activities or projects are the base of your camp day. Do things you want to try and more. Who knows, you might find something you're good at and enjoy.
I can not emphasize these tips enough but wearing clothes you like and are "nicer" is not a good idea. And trust me, you need the sunscreen and bug spray.
That is all I have! Have a great summer away at camp and remember these few tips to have the best summer!
